The weekend is here again, and not just a regular weekend, it’s the first long weekend of the year! I know everyone has been looking forward to this since New Year’s Day. With the extra day off, there’s plenty to do in the city. Here are my TOP 5. Have fun, folks!
Canadian International Auto Show – celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, this annual event is held in the North and South buildings of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and will showcase more than 1,000 new cars, trucks, SUVs, luxury vehicles, motorcycles and more. Check out the latest technologies, browse over 1oo exhibitor booths and maybe scout out that future purchase.
Wavelength Music Festival Thirteen – if you’re feeling musical this weekend check out this indie rock showcase that famously helped launch the careers of bands like Broken Social Scene. This year’s line-up includes Toronto post-rockers Do Make Say Think, Edmonton rapper Cadence Weapon, Montreal’s glitchy techno-popper Doldrums and the reunion of Henri Fabergé and the Adorables. Patti Smith Exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario – the photography of legendary rock musician Patti Smith has arrived at the AGO. The Camera Solo exhibition features photographs, taken with a vintage Polaroid camera, of sights and spaces significant to Smith, as well as personal objects and a short film. Tickets start at $11. Family Day at the TIFF Bell Lightbox – This free event taking place this Monday is the alternative to the usual array of kiddie films to pacify the tots on their day off. TIFF has programmed a whole slate of free activities for Family Day including pop-up magic shows on the third floor, a button making workshop and even a green screen setup where kids can magically appear in movie scenes.
Sears Great Canadian Chill at Yonge-Dundas Square – if you’re feeling brave why not take a dip to help fight children’s cancer.This event is part of a series of Polar Bear Dips happening across Canada to raise funds for pediatric oncology research.
